Alternate Number Dialing

Run outbound campaigns3 min readUpdated 2026-03-14

Alternate Number Dialing lets you dial from multiple outbound numbers within a single campaign. The dialer rotates through your number pool, which distributes call volume across numbers and improves answer rates by reducing the chance of any single number being flagged as spam.

Available on: All dialer types, all Sales Dialer plans.

How It Works

  1. You assign multiple outbound numbers to a campaign.
  2. The dialer rotates through these numbers as it makes calls.
  3. Each prospect sees a different caller ID, drawn from your number pool.
  4. If a prospect calls back, the call routes to the agent or team assigned to that number.

Setting Up Alternate Number Dialing

Add Numbers to Your Pool

  1. Go to Sales Dialer > Settings > Number Pool (or Outbound Numbers).
  2. Add the JustCall numbers you want to use for dialing.
  3. Ensure each number has inbound routing configured (ring group, IVR, or voicemail) so callbacks are handled.

Assign Numbers to a Campaign

  1. Open a campaign (new or existing).
  2. In Caller ID settings, select Multiple Numbers or Number Rotation.
  3. Choose numbers from your pool.
  4. Set the rotation method:
MethodBehavior
Round-robinCycles through numbers sequentially. Each call uses the next number in the list.
RandomSelects a number randomly for each call.
WeightedAssigns call volume proportionally based on weights you set (e.g., 40% to Number A, 30% to Number B, 30% to Number C).
  1. Save the campaign settings.

Alternate Numbers vs. Local Presence

Use caseDistribute volume, prevent spam flagsIncrease answer rates with local caller ID
Combine?Yes — use Local Presence with a pool of numbers per area code

For best results, combine both: use Local Presence to match area codes and Alternate Number Dialing to rotate across multiple numbers within each area code.

Benefits

  • Reduced spam risk: Spreading calls across numbers keeps per-number volume low.
  • Higher answer rates: Prospects are less likely to block a number they have only seen once.
  • Callback handling: All numbers route to your team, so no callbacks are lost.
  • Number longevity: Lower volume per number means healthier numbers over time.

Best Practices

  • Use at least 3–5 numbers per campaign. More numbers means lower volume per number.
  • Monitor number health for all numbers in your rotation. Remove flagged numbers immediately.
  • Ensure every number in the pool has inbound routing configured. Unanswered callbacks damage trust.
  • Cap outbound calls per number at 100–150 per day.
  • Pair with Number Health Management to proactively detect issues.
