Set Up a WhatsApp Business Account with JustCall

Connect WhatsApp to JustCall to manage WhatsApp conversations alongside your SMS and calls. This guide covers the full setup process.

Note: This guide is for users who signed up before September 21, 2024 using the legacy flow. For the new sign-up flow, see WhatsApp Getting Started.


Setup Overview

  1. Create a business app on Meta (Facebook).
  2. Send a test message.
  3. Configure the inbound message webhook.
  4. Create a never-expiring access token.
  5. Register your phone number.
  6. Send your first WhatsApp message from JustCall.

Step 1: Create a Meta Business App

  1. Go to your Facebook Developer account.
  2. Click Create App → select Business type.
  3. Your developer account must be older than 1 hour.
  4. Fill in app details and email.
  5. Click Setup on the WhatsApp product card.

Step 2: Send a Test Message

  1. Copy the temporary access token, Phone Number ID, and WhatsApp Business Account ID.
  2. Enter your phone number in the recipient field.
  3. Verify with the code sent to your WhatsApp.
  4. Click Send Message — you should receive a test message.

Step 3: Configure the Webhook

  1. Click Configure webhooks.
  2. Enter the webhook URL provided by JustCall.
  3. Add the verification token.
  4. Click Verify and Save.
  5. Subscribe to: messages, message_template_status_update, phone_number_quality_update.

Step 4: Create a Permanent Access Token

  1. Go to Business SettingsSystem Users.
  2. Add a system user with admin role.
  3. Add your app as an asset with full control.
  4. Add your WhatsApp Business Account with full control.
  5. Generate a new token with Never expiration.
  6. Ensure scopes include whatsapp_business_management and whatsapp_business_messaging.

Step 5: Register Your Phone Number

  1. Click Add Phone Number in the Meta developer dashboard.
  2. Enter your business name (visible to customers), email, website.
  3. Select timezone and business category.
  4. Enter your JustCall phone number.
  5. Verify via text message.
  6. Toggle development mode to Live.

Important: Add a payment method to your Meta developer account to message customers. Without it, only customer-initiated conversations work.

Step 6: Connect to JustCall

  1. Log into JustCall → navigate to WhatsApp.
  2. Select your linked JustCall number.
  3. Click Start Registration.
  4. Enter the details from your Meta developer dashboard.
  5. Click Finish.
