Alphanumeric Sender ID Overview
Alphanumeric Sender ID lets you send SMS messages from a custom business name (like "AcmeCo") instead of a phone number. Recipients see your brand name as the sender, improving recognition and open rates.
Not available in the US or Canada. Alphanumeric Sender IDs are supported in most international markets.
Benefits
- Brand recognition. Recipients see your business name, not an unfamiliar number.
- Higher open rates. Recognizable senders get more reads and fewer spam reports.
- High throughput. Alphanumeric Sender IDs offer strong deliverability with lower carrier filtering.
- No number required. Send messages without purchasing a local number in the destination country.
Formatting Rules
| Rule | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Maximum length | 11 characters |
| Allowed characters | A-Z, a-z, 0-9, spaces |
| Must contain | At least one letter |
| Not allowed | Special characters, punctuation |

Sender ID Types
- Dynamic: Most countries allow instant provisioning — set your Sender ID and start sending.
- Pre-registered: Some countries require advance registration and documentation before activation. Setup fees or monthly fees may apply.
Limitations
- One-way only. Recipients cannot reply to an Alphanumeric Sender ID. For two-way messaging, use a local or toll-free number.
- Paid accounts only. Not available on free trials.
- Country restrictions. Some countries don't support Alphanumeric Sender IDs or require pre-registration.
- Opt-out handling. JustCall's STOP keyword processing does not work with Alphanumeric Sender IDs. Provide alternative opt-out instructions.
Prohibited Uses
- Gambling, dating, adult content
- Spam or unsolicited messaging
- Phishing or impersonation
- Content illegal in the destination country
