Managing Ownership of JustCall Numbers
Every phone number in JustCall has an owner — the person responsible for its settings, routing, and configuration. This article explains how number ownership works and how to transfer it between team members.

How number ownership works
When you purchase or add a phone number, it is owned by the person who created it. The owner controls the number's settings:
- Business hours
- Call routing rules
- Voicemail greetings
- Recording preferences
- Team member assignments
Other team members assigned to the number can make and receive calls, but they cannot change the number's configuration unless they are an Admin or Account Owner.
Transfer ownership of a number
If a team member leaves or changes roles, transfer their number ownership to someone else:
- Go to Phone Numbers in the left sidebar
- Select the number you want to transfer
- Open the number's Settings
- Under Number Owner, select the new owner from your team list
- Save changes
The new owner inherits all existing settings. Call history and message threads remain intact.
Who can transfer ownership
- Account Owners can transfer any number
- Admins can transfer numbers they own or numbers assigned to team members they manage
- Team Members cannot transfer ownership
When to transfer ownership
- A team member leaves the company — transfer before removing their account
- A number is reassigned to a different department
- A manager takes over a rep's dedicated line
- You are consolidating numbers under a single admin
Tip: Before removing a team member's account, always check which numbers they own. Removing an account without transferring ownership may leave numbers unassigned.
