How JustCall Works

JustCall is a business phone system that runs entirely in your browser, on your desktop, or on your mobile device. You get phone numbers, make and receive calls, send text messages, and connect everything to your CRM — without installing any hardware.

This article explains the four building blocks: numbers, users, credits, and integrations.

Available on: All plans

Phone Numbers

Every call and text in JustCall starts with a phone number. You get 2 free numbers per account on current plans, and you can add more at any time.

What you can do with a number

  • Make and receive calls from any device (web, desktop app, mobile app)
  • Send and receive SMS and MMS
  • Set up a phone menu (IVR) so callers reach the right person
  • Share a number with your team so multiple people can answer
  • Assign a number to one person for a dedicated line

Number types

JustCall offers local, mobile, toll-free, and national numbers in 70+ countries. Choose the type that matches how your customers expect to reach you.

Key point: Each number has its own settings for business hours, call routing, voicemail, and recording. Configure these per number to match the workflow for that line.

Users

JustCall uses a seat-based model. Every person on your team needs their own user account.

Three default roles

RoleWho it is forWhat they can do
Account OwnerThe person who created the accountEverything. Billing, settings, team management. One per account.
AdminManagers and team leadsAlmost everything the Owner can do, except ownership transfer. Multiple allowed.
Team MemberFrontline reps and agentsMake calls, send messages, log dispositions, manage contacts. Cannot change billing or number settings.

Admins can also create custom roles with specific permissions if the default three do not fit your team structure.

How users connect to numbers

Assign a number to a specific team member for a dedicated line. Or share a number across multiple team members so the whole team can answer calls and respond to messages on the same line.

Credits and Bundled Usage

JustCall billing has two parts: your subscription (per user, per month) and credits (pay-as-you-go for usage beyond your plan's included minutes).

What is included in your plan

Every plan includes bundled minutes for calls and SMS. These reset monthly and do not roll over. The exact amounts depend on your plan tier.

What credits cover

Credits pay for activities outside your bundled usage: international calls, bulk SMS campaigns, premium-rate numbers, voicemail transcription, call forwarding to external numbers, and AI Voice Agent overage.

The positive balance rule

Your account must maintain a positive credit balance at all times — even if you still have bundled minutes remaining. A zero balance blocks all calls and messages. Set up auto top-up to avoid service interruptions.

CAUTION: A zero credit balance stops your service even when you have unused bundled minutes. Set up auto top-up as part of your initial account setup.

Integrations

JustCall connects to 100+ business tools so your calls and messages are logged automatically where your team already works.

CRM integrations

Connect JustCall to HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Zoho, ActiveCampaign, Copper, and dozens of other CRMs. Once connected:

  • Calls and SMS log automatically to the right contact record
  • Click-to-call from your CRM without switching tabs
  • AI transcripts, summaries, and call scores sync to your CRM

Other integrations

  • Helpdesks: Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom, Help Scout, Front, Gorgias
  • Productivity: Slack, Google Calendar, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make
  • Developer tools: REST APIs, webhooks, custom integrations via developer.justcall.io

How integrations work

Most integrations connect in a few clicks from the JustCall dashboard. Once connected, data flows automatically. You do not need to manually log calls or copy information between systems.

Putting It Together

Here is how the four building blocks connect:

  1. Get a number. Pick a local, toll-free, or mobile number in your country.
  2. Add your team. Invite team members and assign them numbers.
  3. Add credits. Load a credit balance and set up auto top-up.
  4. Connect your CRM. Link JustCall to the tools your team uses daily.

Once these four steps are done, your team can start making calls and sending messages immediately.
