Troubleshoot Microphone Issues
If JustCall cannot detect your microphone or the other party cannot hear you, follow these steps to diagnose and fix the problem.
Available on: All plans
Identify the symptom
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Microphone not detected" error | Browser permission denied or no device connected | Grant permission and verify device is plugged in |
| Microphone detected but no audio | Wrong device selected in browser or JustCall settings | Select the correct input device |
| Intermittent microphone cuts out | Loose connection or system audio conflicts | Try a different USB port; close competing apps |
| Microphone works in other apps but not JustCall | JustCall-specific permission blocked | Reset site permissions in Chrome |
Step 1: Check browser permissions
- Open Chrome and go to
chrome://settings/content/microphone. - Confirm that
app.justcall.iois listed under Allowed. - If it is listed under Blocked, remove it and reload JustCall — Chrome will prompt you to allow access again.
You can also click the lock icon in the address bar while on JustCall, then toggle Microphone to Allow.
Step 2: Verify system audio settings
macOS
- Open System Settings > Sound > Input.
- Confirm your headset microphone is selected.
- Speak and verify the input level meter responds.
Windows
- Open Settings > System > Sound > Input.
- Select your headset microphone from the dropdown.
- Click Test your microphone to confirm it is working.
Step 3: Select the correct device in JustCall
- In JustCall, go to Settings > Audio.
- Under Microphone, select the headset or device you want to use.
- Click Test to hear a playback confirmation.
If the correct device does not appear in the dropdown, disconnect and reconnect the headset, then refresh the page.
Step 4: Rule out Chrome extension conflicts
Some Chrome extensions (ad blockers, privacy tools, other VoIP extensions) can interfere with microphone access.
- Open
chrome://extensions/. - Disable all extensions.
- Reload JustCall and test the microphone.
- If it works, re-enable extensions one at a time to find the conflict.
Step 5: Reset and reconnect
If none of the above steps work:
- Close JustCall completely.
- Disconnect your headset.
- Clear browser cache and cookies for
justcall.io. - Restart Chrome.
- Reconnect your headset.
- Open JustCall and allow microphone access when prompted.
This forces Chrome to re-detect your audio hardware and request fresh permissions.
